What is a Sound Engineer?

The term “Sound Engineer” is used a bit everywhere in the world to identify some audio related jobs. But in Quebec, you have to be carefull, since the use of the term “Engineer” (“Ingénieur)” is exclusively reserved to the members of the Engineers of Quebec order (Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec).

The use of the term “Engineer” is exclusively reserved for members of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec. A title is a way of qualifying a persons skills, their function, their task, university level or professional qualification. The title of «engineer» fits in the later category. In Québec it’s usage is governed by the Loi sur les ingénieurs and the Code des professions.

For the live shows, instead of using Sound Engineer, one must use:

- Soundperson ( Man or Woman)
In the music business one must use:
